Ray Bradbury’s science fiction short stories ‘ROCKET MAN and KALEIDOSCOPE’ will come alive at the 2016 Orlando Fringe Festival, May 19-29!
Actor David Lee, winner of the 2015 Fringe’s Critic’s Choice Award Winner for Best Actor and the Daily City People's Choice Award for Best in Venue 2015, will dramatize two short stories - ROCKET MAN and KALEIDOSCOPE- from celebrated science fiction writer Ray Bradbury onstage at the 25th anniversary of the Orlando Fringe Festival.
Ray Bradbury is an award-winning and prolific author of hundreds of short stories, books, as well as numerous operas, plays, teleplays, and screenplays. His visionary, groundbreaking works include Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, Dandelion Wine, and Something Wicked This Way Comes. ROCKET MAN and KALEIDOSCOPE are two short stories from his seminal work The Illustrated Man.
The New York Times called Bradbury "the writer most responsible for bringing modern science fiction into the literary mainstream.” The lyrical power of his timeless prose and poetic metaphors blends imagination and truth with science fiction and fantasy to depict the art of the possible.
"Ray Bradbury's writing has excited and inspired me since I was a child”, says David Lee. “The quiet desolation of these two pieces, one set on Earth and the other in Deep Space, are ripe and perfect for thrilling and theatrical storytelling. They have never been performed together onstage and I'm beyond excited and honored to perform them at the Orlando Fringe Festival.”
David Lee’s previous Orlando Fringe hits include: Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Thom Pain (based on nothing), Mr. Charles, Formerly of Palm Beach, The Three Pussy Riot Sisters, The Dream Express, JAWZ The Musical!, Pie Face: The Adventures of Anita Bryant, and The Book of Liz.
The show is produced by Margaret Nolan/award-winning Fringe veteran Kangagirl Productions. Fringe shows include: Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll, The Three Pussy Riot Sisters, Miss Sammy Bakes A Cake, Pie Face: The Adventures of Anita Bryant, A Midnight Snack with Tom & Vincent, Lily& Lila’s Lovely Lesbian Hour, and Coming In.
THE ROCKETMAN (c) 1951, renewed 1979 by Ray Bradbury & KALEIDOSCOPE (c) 1949, renewed 1976 by Ray Bradbury, are being performed by permission of Don Congdon Associates, Inc,
