The House that Art Built: an art show of gratitude

On Monday, February 8th from 7:00PM to 10:00PM, Savoy Orlando, a popular nightlife spot in Downtown Orlando on N. Orange Ave, will host their very first Art Show featuring artist, Derek Covington Smith. Smith, is a refined traditional artist that works with mixed mediums to further explore the relationship between emotion and human nature. He has lived in Orlando, FL for over 12 years and has constantly grown and been inspired by the people and the culture of the Central Florida city. “I want to do a show, one that spans what I’ve been going through while here and let everyone know how much they have helped me along the way,” says Smith. Furthermore, 20% of proceeds of purchases will go to the Downtown Arts District of Orlando. A non-profit organization for advancing arts and economic development in the City of Orlando The Show focuses on three major stories from his journey with art and reflection told by Derek Smith’s artwork. “The Beginning,” which boasts his younger work. To the “Recovery,” which reflects on the in between and his struggle with self reliance and confidence, and finally “The Women” an impressive showcase of large canvases exhibiting his first true collection of expressive women in different emotional states. The February 8th Art Show of Gratitude will feature over 50 original works, ranging from small watercolors, to 3D wall art, to 6-foot tall canvases. The artist, Derek Covington Smith, will be at the “House that Art Built, an Art Show of Gratitude,” on Monday to meet with collectors and the community to talk about the background and influences of his work.
